The pour here comes from Foresight Coffee Roasters, under an exclusive arrangement that includes a blend roasted for the hotel alone. The rise COFFEE BAR is the coffee counter at The Restoration Hotel on Wentworth Street in downtown Charleston, small enough to read in one look and reached through its own door off the street.

Named lattes and a Little Peanut pastry case

The drinks list is where the counter shows its personality. The Iced Rosemary Rise Latte is the house signature, herbal and lightly sweet; the Honey Lavender Latte sits in the same floral lane; the Oatmilk Latte is the straightforward plant-based order and Cold Brew Coffee the simplest one of all. Matcha, tea and cold-pressed juices cover the non-espresso side. Pastries come from Little Peanut Bake Shop, which gives the case two directions at once: ham croissants and breakfast sandwiches on the savoury side, cinnamon buns and blueberry scones on the sweet. Vegetarian choices, oat milk and other plant-based options and some gluten-free items give a small counter more range than its footprint suggests.

A small front room and a garden

The bar opened as part of the hotel's Wentworth Street expansion in late 2015 and still reads as polished hospitality rather than a stripped-back kiosk. Inside is one light-filled front room with seating and not much more; the garden outside is what gives the place a second rhythm, a quiet green space to sit with a friend, study, or work through an afternoon. That combination makes the visit adjustable. Take a cold brew and keep walking, or take the garden and stay two hours. Few coffee counters this small give you a real choice about which kind of visit you are having.

Start with the Iced Rosemary Rise Latte. It carries the café's own name and it is the drink most closely associated with the counter.
