Artefice publishes guides under Elio Varenna, a house pen name for the publication's editors and researchers. It does not represent a fictional personal history or imply that one person did every piece of reporting.
What earns coverage
We cover independent coffee shops, bakeries, and related hospitality when the reporting reveals meaningful craft, service, design, community, or operating change. Inclusion is an editorial decision. Payment, advertising, gifts, or access do not guarantee coverage or a favorable conclusion.
Reporting and verification
Names, locations, opening status, dates, ownership, menus, methods, and other material facts are checked against the strongest available sources.
