Coffee, matcha and a brunch that lasts

The counter runs on specialty coffee from local and international roasters, with matcha given equal billing rather than treated as the option for people who do not drink coffee. Roasters rotate, so the coffee list is worth asking about; the café works with several names instead of pouring one house roast.

Everything else is built for the slow version of a morning: a cup, a plate, and enough time to sit over both. Veggie and vegan options run through the menu, and dogs are welcome.

Food is where .paradero gets specific. Eggs Benedict arrive on artisan brioche with guacamole, poached eggs and hollandaise. Turkish eggs pair poached eggs with spiced yogurt, smoked paprika, cumin, a hazelnut and walnut dukkah, and sourdough. For something heavier, the roast beef focaccia is built with pickle mayonnaise, Gruyère, artisanal pickled cabbage, spinach and confit cherry tomatoes.

Sandwiches and toasts fill in the rest of the day, and the kitchen stays in brunch territory rather than reaching for dinner service.

The café sits in Sant Antoni, in Barcelona's Eixample, and works as a neighbourhood daytime room: laptop-friendly inside, with a small terrace for the version of the visit that involves less typing. It is equally usable for a long brunch with someone else or a quiet working morning.
