Why go
A signature espresso built on the Calvet Espresso Blend, poured on the ground floor of a Gaudí building: D·Origen's Casa Calvet room is the brand's Barcelona counter, and it has been roasting its own coffee since 2012.
Signature espresso, and filter worth the wait
The coffee programme is the whole identity. The roastery organises its range into everyday coffees, rare editions, organic lots, capsules, home espresso and single origins, which gives the bar a deep bench to pull from rather than one house blend and a decaf.
At the counter that becomes espresso, batch brew, pour over and cold brew. The Signature Espresso, made with the Calvet Espresso Blend, is the drink the room is named around and the clearest read on house style, which runs to body, crema and repeatable consistency across machines. Filter is not the afterthought it is in many espresso-first Spanish cafes; the single origins reward the longer cup.
A Gaudí ground floor rebuilt from recycled material
Casa Calvet gives the room more character than a grab-and-go bar, and the fit-out took that seriously. The renovation was treated as a responsibility given the building, and the interior leans on sustainability: furniture made with a 3D printing company from recycled plastic bottles and spent coffee grounds, plus recycled-wood surfaces.
The result is bright, with daylight, long shared tables, retail bags and brew gear near the counter. It works as tasting room, shop and sit-down cafe at once, which is why it holds a longer visit than a quick cortado.
Retail is part of the visit rather than a rack by the door. Bags from across the range sit within reach of the tables, along with capsules and the home espresso line, so a cup at the counter turns easily into beans for the machine at home.
Order the Signature Espresso, then take filter seriously
Start with the Signature Espresso or a straight shot of the Calvet Espresso Blend for the house style. The blends are built to hold up through everything from a super-automatic to a traditional machine, so the same coffee reads clearly in a cortado or a milk drink.
Then move to filter for a longer cup and a clearer look at the single origins. Batch brew is the fastest version, pour over the most deliberate, and cold brew the one to order when the Eixample heat argues against a hot cup. D·Origen was ranked 83rd in The World's 100 Best Coffee Shops 2026, one of four Spanish cafes on that list.
