Ecuadorian coffee, bought straight from the farms behind it, sets the terms at Mulano, a 1950 heritage house in Piñas divided into three rooms.

El Oro’s first specialty coffee shop

Mulano’s core identity is specialty coffee, but the concept reaches past espresso service. The building holds three connected environments, a bar, a restaurant and a coffee shop, across 335 square metres of a 1950 house. The coffee programme works with Ecuadorian coffees from the country’s better farms, and the priorities are consistency, sustainability, direct trade with growers and coffee culture.

The drinks side runs wider than coffee, with cocktails, mocktails, imported beers, pét-nat and signature drinks, so it works as an all-day beverage venue as well as a café. Food carries real weight too: Mulano is a reference point for local and international cooking in the province, and dessert is served alongside the coffee.

Three rooms in one house

Read Mulano as a Piñas landmark with a broad hospitality format rather than a single-purpose counter. The structure is the thing to understand: bar, restaurant and coffee shop under one roof, in a house that keeps its 1950 bones. It works as a meeting place for people of all ages, which makes it social and multi-generational rather than a narrow takeaway window.

Its standing is unusual for a city of this size. Mulano was the first specialty coffee shop in El Oro, and it ranks No. 48 in The World’s 100 Best Coffee Shops 2026, one of two Ecuadorian venues on that list. It also sits inside Ecuador’s competition infrastructure, holding the World Coffee Championships licence as the country’s competition body, running the national barista, brewers and cupping championships, and representing Ecuador for the Latte Art Grading System.

Order coffee first, then stay for the rest

Start with the coffee, which is where the sourcing shows: Ecuadorian lots, direct relationships with the farms, and a bar used to explaining what is in the cup. Dessert is the natural second order, and the kitchen means the visit can turn into lunch without moving.

Later, the bar takes over, with cocktails, mocktails, imported beer, pét-nat and the house signature drinks. Founded in 2022, Mulano stands out among the coffee options in Piñas and across El Oro for its Ecuadorian sourcing, its competition links, and a hybrid format that keeps coffee, food, dessert and bar service in the same house.
