Why go

Peruvian coffee, roasted in the house

Everything poured here is Peruvian, and the buying is done in person: trips to the growing regions, lots chosen on the ground, roasting handled in house, and direct relationships with the farmers who supply it. Origen Tostadores de Café sits in Pueblo Libre, a Lima district with little high-end specialty coffee when the coffeehouse opened, and it has since gone the other way, placing 45th on The World’s 100 Best Coffee Shops list for 2026.

There is competition history behind the bar. One of the owners won the Peruvian AeroPress Championship in 2014, three national champions work on the team, and espresso has run on a bright orange La Marzocco FB/80 since the early years. Each year the team spends a week on farms with producers, experimenting with fermentations and processing that later turn up in the cup. The retail range stays Peruvian too: Orígenes Finca El Paraíso, the “Karabast” Finca Las Nubes, Finca El Abuelo and Finca Timbuyacu.

A cold list that goes well past iced latte

The everyday menu covers espresso, cappuccino, latte, espresso mocha, V60 filter coffee and a bottled cold brew extracted in cold water for six hours and sold in a 300ml bottle. That is the spine of the operation, and it is where a first visit should start.

The cold and flavoured list is where the bar plays. Latte helado and mocha helado sit beside café sour, café jamaica, café orange, café berry, café passion and café aguaymanto, pairing coffee with citrus, florals and Peruvian fruit. There is a coffee-and-pisco corner as well: chilcano con café and chilcano con café y maracuyá, built with cold brew ice cubes, pisco quebranta, lemon and ginger ale. Tea is sourced with the same specificity, from Oolong Se Chung out of Fujian to Kenyan black, Japanese sencha, Cederberg rooibos and cedrón from Áncash.

Order the cold brew, then add a medialuna

Start with the six-hour cold brew for the clearest chilled reference, or take an espresso, cappuccino, latte, V60 or espresso mocha if the visit is hot-coffee led. For something more playful, café orange, café berry, café passion or café aguaymanto keeps you inside the fruit-driven side of the list.

Food is café-style but broader than a pastry case. Homemade medialunas and cranberry oatmeal cookies handle the sweet end. On the savoury side there is sánduche de pavo with criolla sauce and lettuce on ciabatta, a sánduche mixto with ham, edam and cream cheese on pita, and a sánduche Bali with grilled chicken, bacon and peach. Empanadas come in spinach and mushroom, beef and chicken, with quiche de poro con champiñones and yuca rellena rounding it out.

Frequently asked questions

What should I order at Origen Tostadores de Café?

Start with the bottled cold brew, extracted in cold water for six hours, or take a V60 filter if you want the roasting shown plainly. Espresso, cappuccino, latte and espresso mocha cover the classics. For something different, café orange, café berry and café aguaymanto put Peruvian fruit into the coffee, and a medialuna pairs with any of them.

What coffee does Origen roast?

Only Peruvian lots, selected on visits to the growing regions and roasted in house, with direct relationships with the growers behind them. The retail range includes Orígenes Finca El Paraíso, the “Karabast” Finca Las Nubes, Finca El Abuelo and Finca Timbuyacu, and the team spends a week each year on farms working on fermentation and processing.
