A coffee-first counter in Cluj-Napoca

Espresso on one side, four hand-brew methods on the other, and a room small enough that the counter sets the pace: this has been one of Cluj-Napoca's specialty coffee fixtures since 2015. The house line, good coffee for good people, is close to a description of how it operates.

The brew list is the reason to go. Espresso covers the quick order, and the manual side runs Aeropress, V60, French Press and Chemex, so the same coffee can be presented four ways depending on what you want from it. The shop also describes itself as a coffee shop and roastery, but the customer-facing part of that is simple: choose at the counter and let the baristas steer the brew.

Small room, morning pressure, shade outside

The room is small, which explains both its character and its morning crush. This is not a large café where the space carries the experience; the counter, the baristas and the cup do the work. Early on it fills quickly, and the rhythm is that of a popular neighbourhood stop with a fast first wave and a calmer feel once it passes.

Service is informal and approachable, and the baristas expect to help people choose a coffee that suits them, which matters when there are four manual methods on the menu. The feel is friendly and unhurried rather than formal. Shaded outdoor seating gives the small interior a useful extension in warm weather, dogs are welcome, and one small courtesy sums the place up: children who come in with their parents are offered milk.

Order filter first, then add a croissant

Filter coffee is the clearest version of what the shop does. Choose the method to suit the cup: Aeropress for something compact, V60 for a clean pour-over, French Press for more body, Chemex for a larger filtered brew. Espresso is the direct order, and the cold side, iced latte, cold brew and lemonade, keeps the menu useful in summer.

The roaster list is part of the ordering logic. A cup here might come from Romanian names such as YUME Coffee Roasters or Bob Coffee Lab, or from European roasters including The Barn and April Coffee Roasters. So the simplest order is also the strongest: pick the brew method, ask what coffee is on, and add a croissant if a small pastry is wanted alongside.
