Le Premier Cafe has been pouring coffee in Shinsaibashi since 1997, and the honten is still the store the rest of the brand answers to. The opening line has not changed either: a cup you cannot do without, in the shop's own phrasing, 人生になくてはならない一杯を届けたい. Coffee is framed as part of a daily rhythm rather than an occasion.

Specialty coffee, in the cup and in the bag

The identity is coffee first. Le Premier calls itself a specialty coffee shop, and the range runs well past what is served at the table: whole beans, single-serve coffee bags, gift formats and bottled iced coffee all carry the same roasting.

The clearest example is the Ethiopia Jimma Gera, a medium roast sold as beans and as coffee bags. Its notes run to fresh lemon, lychee and a honey-sweet, tea-like finish, which tells you where the roasting sits: fruit clarity, acidity and sweetness rather than depth of bitterness. The coffee-bag format is deliberately simple, a bag dropped into a cup with hot water poured over it, and the gift set holds ten servings.

A house built on the same welcome

What the Shinsaibashi store trades on is continuity. The company describes itself as having grown into a shop where the warmth of the staff is part of the operation, and the phrases it uses publicly, Cheers Your Life and あなたを応援する一杯を, a cup that supports you, point the same way. The room is read through care and consistency rather than through decor.

From that 1997 opening the company has grown to three stores, covering the Shinsaibashi, Namba and Awaji Island areas, so the honten now sits inside a small network while remaining the address tied to the original story. It is the one that carries the founding promise most directly.

What to drink, what to carry out

Come for a coffee-focused stop in one of Osaka's busiest commercial districts, particularly when the point of the visit is the coffee itself rather than a long food menu. Order the Ethiopia Jimma Gera if it is on, and read it for the lemon and lychee rather than for roast depth.

Then take something with you. Beans for home brewing, coffee bags for a cup that needs no equipment, the ten-serving set as a gift, or a 500 ml bottle of unsweetened iced coffee that is ready to drink undiluted. Those formats are why the honten works as well on the way past as it does sitting down.
