Why go

House-roasted single origins, and no blends on the bar since 2010: that is the whole argument at Drop Coffee, and the cup is not an accessory to the room.

Single origins, roasted to order

Drop opened as a Stockholm coffee bar in 2009 and started roasting in the back of the shop a year later on a one-kilo machine. By 2012 the roastery had moved onto a 25-kilo Diedrich, and it later settled at Rosersberg, where it gained organic certification in June 2018. The lead roaster is a co-owner and a three-time Swedish Coffee Roasting Champion, and the style is light, fragrant and traceable rather than heavy or chocolate-led.

Single origins replaced blends entirely in 2010, with lots such as El Salvador, Bolivia Carmelita Copacabana and Rwanda Huye Mountain moving through the rotation. Roasting happens to order during the week, so the names on the bar change with harvest and sourcing. Filter is not an afterthought either: Drop became Sweden's official Kalita brewing equipment supplier in 2013, and the brewer is part of how the coffees are presented. The café ranked 44th on Opinionated About Dining's Cheap Eats list for Europe in 2023 and was recognised at the European Coffee Trip Awards in 2025.

The original room still works like a fika stop

The café stays on its original Södermalm site near Mariatorget, even though the roastery outgrew the back room years ago. The space has since expanded into the area where roasting first happened, which lets it take more regulars without turning the bar into a showroom.

The counter is the useful place to begin, because the baristas tend to steer the choice by origin and brew rather than through a long list of flavoured drinks. It is a room for fika as much as for extraction talk: people settle in with laptops, friends share small plates, and the pace suits a filter brew more than a quick gulp. Food stays light, with sandwiches, toasted items, pastries, sweets, soup and ice cream in summer, sourced from local and mostly organic producers. Come for the coffee first and let the food do the supporting work.

Order the flat white, then add the bun

The first order is the flat white, especially if the question is whether the roasting holds up in milk. It gives the espresso enough structure to show the house style without burying it, and it is the drink to take before moving into filter.

If there is a current single origin on Kalita, ask what is pouring and take the recommendation, because the rotation is the point. For the side plate, take the cardamom bun; it fits the fika rhythm better than a full lunch, with spice and sweetness that do not crowd the coffee. On warmer days the iced latte and the oat milk cappuccino are part of the house language too, but the flat white and the cardamom bun make the cleanest first read.

Frequently asked questions

What should I order at Drop Coffee?

Start with the flat white, which shows whether the roasting holds up in milk and gives the espresso enough structure to read clearly. Then ask what single origin is pouring on Kalita filter, since the rotation changes with harvest and sourcing. A cardamom bun is the side that fits the room best.

Does Drop Coffee serve blends?

No. The bar has poured single origins only since 2010, with lots such as El Salvador, Bolivia Carmelita Copacabana and Rwanda Huye Mountain moving through the rotation. Roasting happens to order during the week at the Rosersberg roastery, which has been organic certified since June 2018.
