Why go

Freddo first, in a city that drinks it cold

The cold coffee list is the centre of gravity. Freddo Espresso and Freddo Cappuccino are the two orders that matter most, whipped and poured over ice the way this part of the Mediterranean has drunk coffee for decades, and they are joined by Iced Americano, Espresso on the Rocks, Iced Flat White, Iced Latte and Iced Mocha. Cold brew is sold by the glass and in 250ml and one-litre bottles for taking home.

Hot coffee is there for anyone who wants it, but the iced range is where the bar shows what it can do, because the beans are roasted in house and the differences between them survive the ice.

A roastery behind the counter

Amber and Joe roasts its own coffee in Nicosia, and the retail side follows from that: bags of beans, drip bags, capsules and subscriptions for people who want the same coffee at home. The bar doubles as a training room, with courses run on site under the Specialty Coffee Association syllabus, which is why the staff will talk about extraction and origin at more length than a quick counter usually allows.

The recognition is in step with that. Amber and Joe was named a country winner in the European Coffee Trip awards for 2025, an award decided inside specialty coffee rather than by a general dining list.

Food, and everything that is not coffee

The food is deliberately simple and built to sit beside a drink: pies, focaccias and bagels, with granola at the morning end. Nothing on it asks to be treated as a meal, which keeps the room moving at café pace.

Nicosia drinks its coffee cold for a good part of the year, and a roastery that puts its own beans through a whipped, iced format is making a quiet point with that: house roasting is not only for people who want a pour-over.

The list of drinks beyond coffee is longer than most roasteries bother with. Matcha and hojicha cover the tea side, along with herbal teas, and there are kombucha, smoothies, juices, sodas, lemonades and chocolate drinks for anyone not drinking coffee at all. For a first visit the route is straightforward: a Freddo Espresso to hear how the house roast reads cold, a focaccia or a bagel alongside, and a bottle of cold brew or a bag of beans on the way out.

Frequently asked questions

What should I order at Amber and Joe?

Order a Freddo Espresso first, since the cold coffee list is the heart of the menu and it shows the house roast at its most characteristic. Freddo Cappuccino is the milkier version, and cold brew is the one to take away in a bottle. A focaccia or a bagel is the natural thing to eat with either.

Do they roast their own coffee?

Yes. Amber and Joe roasts in Nicosia and sells the results as beans, drip bags, capsules and subscriptions as well as pouring them at the bar. The same room is used for coffee courses run to the Specialty Coffee Association syllabus, so questions about origin or extraction get real answers at the counter.
