Why go

Water is mixed twice here, once for espresso and once for filter, which tells you most of what you need to know about the bar. Unfiltered opened in 2019 in Inchicore, well outside the city-centre coffee loop, in a room small enough that the brew bar takes up most of it. The house roaster it works with puts the same idea more bluntly: roasting is not the origin story, brewing is.

Precision, and the recognition that followed

The World’s 100 Best Coffee Shops placed Unfiltered 56th in 2026 and described it as a study in precision and restraint, a small space given over entirely to craft. The European Coffee Trip awards had recognised it the year before.

The reputation does not rest on a long menu. It rests on technical choices: separate water recipes for the two brew formats, expressive single origins rather than a house blend, and baristas who can talk about roast, milk, water and extraction without turning it into a lecture. Milk is taken as seriously as the coffee, sourced from Irish farms and chosen for sweetness, texture and how it sits against the espresso.

A small room, and no distractions

The space is clean, spare and industrial, with counter seating and little room beyond the cup. When it is full it feels compact, so the natural visit is a focused sit, a conversation about beans, or a bag taken home.

Food is deliberately secondary: a few pastries, sometimes a small bake, with coffee as the main course. Plant-based milk is a menu fixture rather than an afterthought. This is not a laptop cafe or a frictionless takeaway window; the bar interaction is slower and more intentional, and it often comes with a glass of water and a word about what is being brewed.

Order filter first, then read the flat white

Filter is the first order. It is the format the water profile was built for, and it is where the single origins show most clearly, so it gives the fullest version of what the bar is doing.

The coffees come through ONI Coffee Roasters, a Dublin roaster built by baristas and focused on limited batches profiled and roasted in the city. Its list has included Arturo Arango, a natural Sidra, and La Leona, a washed Gesha, which is the kind of expressive lot the bar is set up for rather than a generic blend. After the filter, a flat white is the useful second read: a shorter expression of the same precision, where the milk work, sweetness and balance come forward. Between the two, the whole argument of the room is on the table.
