Seasonal drinks and housemade syrups in the Lower Haight

Third Wheel Coffee began on an eleven-foot electric coffee tricycle, ran as a mobile bar from 2021 to 2024, and now pours from a counter its founders built and installed inside Lucinda's Deli in the Lower Haight in July 2022. That history explains the shape of the place. It is a coffee bar inside a sandwich shop rather than a standalone café, run by people who spent three years finding their regulars before they had a fixed address. The menu is built around espresso drinks, cold brew, seasonal specials, tea and other non-coffee drinks, with the syrups and concentrates made in house.

A quick counter with neighbourhood habits

The format is compact and counter-led: order at one end, collect at the pickup side. There is no long dining room and no pretence of one, which suits both the deli space and a neighbourhood that treats the shop as a stop rather than a destination. Cold brew concentrate has been sold by the 32 ounce jar for people who would rather make it at home, and the business still runs pop-ups and private events alongside the counter. The matcha latte has picked up its own following, and the shop was named in The Infatuation's 2026 matcha guide.

Order the seasonal special, then add a pastry

Start with whatever seasonal drink is on the board, because that is where the housemade syrups and concentrates actually show up. For a plainer read, an espresso drink, drip coffee or cold brew covers it, and tea or another non-coffee drink works if caffeine is not the point of the visit. Food is light and built for the same quick stop. Pastries come from Saltwater Bakeshop, and cinnamon coffee cake from Karen's Cookie Kitchen has been a regular fixture. Look for a chocolate mochi muffin or a ham and cheese croissant beside an iced latte, which is the version of this most regulars settle into.
