Stow 2GO

Stow 2GO is built for walking. The Prešernov trg counter pours the roastery's coffee into cups meant to leave with you, with a couple of small tables at most and sometimes no furniture at all, so the drink and the counter are the whole experience.

Stow coffee, kept portable

The drinks list stays tight: espresso, flat white, latte, filter coffee, cold brew and iced coffee, with a beetroot latte as the outlier and smoothies, tea, cocoa and hot chocolate for anyone not drinking coffee. The beans come from Stow Coffee Roasters' own programme, which began in 2015 and now runs out of a roastery in Kamnik.

The coffees change but the shape of them does not. A Kenya has run with mango, grapefruit and passion fruit notes; a Peru with apple, chocolate and caramel. Cold brew and iced coffee carry the same coffees into chilled drinks. Across the wider operation the brewing goes through La Marzocco espresso machines, V60, Chemex and cold brew, and the 2GO counter is the fast expression of all of it.

A counter on the square

Prešernov trg is one of Ljubljana's most crossed public spaces, and the format matches: pedestrians, visitors and people on their way somewhere, served quickly. This is a takeaway counter rather than a lounge cafe, and it does not pretend otherwise. Its job is a good cup in a short stop.

The culture around it is casual. Bring a reusable cup and they will use it, bring a dog and nobody minds. It also works as a retail point: buy beans for home, have the baristas grind them, and browse brewers, cups and coffee-themed odds and ends including keychains.

What to order

A flat white is the clearest order, because it puts the espresso and the milk texture in the same cup and both are what this counter is judged on. Espresso and latte are the classic alternatives, and filter suits anyone interested in the current rotating lot.

Food is deliberately light: brownies, cookies and pies, sweet and savoury, rather than a kitchen menu.
