Why go
Weighed doses, controlled temperature and an extraction the barista will talk you through, even for a plain espresso: Porta do Café runs a multi-roaster counter in Aveiro at a deliberately slower speed than the city's bica bars.
Guest roasters and a coffee list that moves
The bar pours espresso, hand brew, batch brew, macchiato, americano and flat white, and the coffees behind them change. Recent pours have included Old Town Coffee from Spain, with Brazil, Colombia and Ethiopia going through espresso and macchiato; the house Porta do Café Brasil and Honduras on espresso; and Harmony Rwanda Washed Red Bourbon, tasting of tropical raisin and passionfruit, as batch brew.
The roasters on the shelf follow the same logic. Friedhats, Dak and Un-Common all appear, with a wider emphasis on European roasters and bags for sale to take home. The baristas are set up to explain brewing methods rather than just execute them, which is the point of running a multi-roaster bar in a city this size.
An open door to Aveiro's coffee culture
The founder spent years in Australia, came back with specialty-coffee knowledge and opened the room Aveiro did not have, with a founding partner alongside. In 2024 the café left its original 28 square metres and reopened nearby on 17 May, roughly tripling the space while keeping what made the first room a local favourite.
Casual here does not mean fast. The rhythm is built for people willing to give a cup fifteen or twenty minutes, and the room revives the older coffee-house role as a place for conversation, argument and tertúlia. The reopening plans included talks, painting exhibitions and book launches, which puts it in Aveiro's civic life as much as its caffeine map. Guests describe a clean, living-room feel and friendly service. It was recognised in the 2025 European Coffee Trip Awards.
Order the flat white, then add pastel de nata
If milk coffee is the goal, the flat white is the call guests name most often, alongside espresso and americano. For a more coffee-led order, take an espresso or ask what is running as batch brew or hand brew that day, since the origins and roasters rotate rather than sitting on a fixed house list. Harmony Rwanda Washed Red Bourbon, with its tropical raisin and passionfruit, shows the flavour language the bar works in.
Food is a companion rather than a second identity: cakes, pastries, lunch, local snacks and homemade sweet treats, with pastel de nata the pastry most closely attached to the café and toasted sandwiches the savoury option guests single out. Let the drink lead, then add the pastry if the visit turns into a longer pause.

Which roasters does Porta do Café use?
It runs as a multi-roaster bar, with Friedhats, Dak and Un-Common among the names that appear and a broader lean towards European roasters. The list rotates, so recent pours have included Old Town Coffee from Spain on espresso and Harmony Rwanda Washed Red Bourbon as batch brew, plus the house Brasil and Honduras coffees.
What should you order at Porta do Café?
A flat white is the most reliable first order, with espresso and americano close behind. For something more revealing, ask what is running as batch brew or hand brew that day, since the origins change. Pastel de nata is the pastry most closely tied to the café, and toasted sandwiches cover the savoury side.
