Espresso in the morning, cake in the afternoon, classic cocktails at night: OLAH CAFE covers the whole day from the ground floor of OLAH Poshtel Taichung-Station. It has traded as 1F OLAH CAFE since March 2022 in central Taichung, working as a hotel cafe with a wider brief than most.

Caramel macchiato by day, cocktails after dark

The drinks list is broader than a coffee counter's. Espresso-based coffee anchors it, with rich tea drinks, special drinks, desserts and light meals filling out the day, then classic cocktails taking over in the evening. Rich-flavoured tea drinks belong to the same list, and the desserts and light meals hold the middle of the day together, though the named recommendations sit on the coffee side. The caramel macchiato is the drink guests name most often, and it sits comfortably beside the cocktail list rather than competing with it. The result is a venue that can be a morning coffee, an afternoon cake or an evening drink without anyone changing rooms.

One room, two moods

By day the cafe is bright and energetic, carrying the building's own atmosphere of sunlight and vitality. By evening the same space softens into something lounge-like, with the lighting and the cocktail menu doing the work. It is spacious, with room for more than 50 guests and seating chosen for different uses: high chairs for working, sofas for casual conversation, round tables for a serious discussion or a tutoring session. Upbeat music and cool air make it a plausible escape from the Taichung heat, which is part of why it functions as a social space rather than a takeaway espresso bar.

Start with the caramel macchiato

The caramel macchiato is the obvious first order, the drink singled out most often and a fair test of the espresso programme. From there the menu moves in two directions. Later, the classic cocktails arrive and the same hospitality carries into the evening.
