One pantry flavour, turned into a café

The entire counter runs on one jar. Nutella Cafe opened on the Magnificent Mile in May 2017 as Ferrero's first Chicago café, and it remains the brand's only permanent café anywhere. The proposition is not quiet café minimalism; it is a familiar chocolate-hazelnut spread given a room, a counter and a menu to occupy. The food follows directly from that: Nutella waffles, Nutella Tiramisu Cups, Nutella Ice Cream Cones, a Nutella-filled croissant, and Nutella Peanut Spread offered as an add-on to the café standards. The drinks are dessert-led rather than technical, with Nutella Mocha Frappes and Nutella Milkshakes at the front, and gelato from Ferrero's partner Vero Gelato deepening the cold end of the counter.

The room leans into the jar

Design carries as much of the visit as the menu. After a temporary closure and a redesign in 2026, the space took its cues from the jar itself: a custom ordering station shaped to that silhouette, a swirling bronze mesh ceiling, and textured walls echoing the spread. The layout separates merchandise, ordering and dining, with feature walls built for photographs. The earlier 2017 room worked the same way, with a jar-shaped door, pendant lights modelled on hazelnut flowers, and a ceiling made to look like waves of Nutella. Scale is part of the character too. Lines have run around the block since the opening, and the café is run with that volume in mind rather than as a quiet neighbourhood stop.

Start with the frappe, then choose the fork

Start with the Nutella Mocha Frappe if the visit is about the branded café experience, because it fits the chocolate-hazelnut brief better than a plain coffee ever will. The Nutella Milkshake is the richer version of the same idea, and the hot drinks work as pairings for the sweet menu rather than as a coffee showcase. For food, choose by format. A Nutella-filled croissant gives the spread a flaky shell; the waffles give it a warmer, structured base; the Tiramisu Cups and Ice Cream Cones sit closer to plated dessert. Gelato, including flavours from Vero Gelato, is the move when the table wants something cold, and customised Nutella jars are the souvenir end of the visit. None of it pretends to be a coffee programme, and the café is stronger for being straightforward about that.
