A lobby counter stocked from Brooklyn

The counter is stocked almost entirely from the neighbourhood around it, which is the whole idea. Neighbors sits in the ground-floor lobby of 1 Hotel Brooklyn Bridge, at the Pier 1 end of Brooklyn Bridge Park, and it is built as a picnic-fare café: seasonal, fresh, portable, and sourced from local Brooklyn purveyors rather than a hotel supply chain. The Taste of the Neighborhood shelf is where that shows most clearly, running through Grady’s Cold Brew, Bushwick Teas, Plentea Matcha, WAAV Organic Smoothie Cubes, Vitality Cold-Pressed Juices, Baked in Brooklyn Pita Chips, Green Mustache Vegan Snacks, North Fork Potato Chips, Pisqueya Hot Sauces and Tate’s Bakeshop Cookies. The effect is part café, part curated market, with coffee, tea, matcha, juice, snacks and small-batch baked goods sharing one counter.

Built for the park, not for a long lunch

Use it the way the location suggests. The room is a warm, convivial gathering spot rather than a dining room, and the food is chosen to travel: the park is a few paces away, and a seasonal salad, a juice and something baked make a better picnic than a sit-down meal here would. Mornings are the natural coffee window, when the counter works as a neighbourhood stop before a walk along the waterfront. Later, it turns into a provisioning point on the way out to the pier or a light stop on the way back to the lobby. It is a practical café rather than a destination one, and it is genuinely good at that job.

Cold brew, juice and something sweet

If coffee is the reason for the visit, Grady’s Cold Brew is the clearest named choice on the counter. Bushwick Teas and Plentea Matcha give the hot side more shape than a generic café list, and fresh pressed juice is a core part of the operation, with Vitality Cold-Pressed Juices on the shelf beside it. WAAV Organic Smoothie Cubes cover the wellness end, organic and gluten-free and made without added sugar. Food skews snackable: Tate’s Bakeshop Cookies for something sweet, Green Mustache Vegan Snacks for a vegan option, and Baked in Brooklyn Pita Chips, North Fork Potato Chips and Pisqueya Hot Sauces for the savoury, pantry-leaning end. Add the seasonal salad if the park is part of the plan.
