The food is cake, cut by the slice, alongside Japanese-style baked goods, and it is deliberately not a full kitchen menu. Japanese-style baked goods keep the sweet side aligned with the shop around it. That restraint makes sense once you see what the coffee is for. It is there to hold a slower visit, one spent among shelves rather than at a table waiting on an order.

A café inside a stationery shop

Loaf on Paper is a Williamsburg hybrid: a café folded into a curated stationery market. It is the sister shop of niconeco zakkaya, which anchors it in a Japanese paper-goods and craft scene rather than in a conventional bakery-café format. Stationery and craft supplies take up the larger half of the floor, and the coffee is arranged to serve people already looking at them rather than the other way round. The name joins the comfort of a loaf to the tactile pleasure of paper, and the room follows through: warm wood, soft lighting and neatly merchandised shelves of paper goods and craft supplies, calm enough for browsing or journaling. It opened around the turn of 2025, and the retail half is not a sideline to the coffee but the reason the coffee is there.

What you are buying is not a single-origin programme or a published matcha list, because Loaf on Paper does not present itself that way; it is the combination of a warm drink, a sweets counter built on cake, and shelves that reward being looked at properly.
