Why go
Bread, then coffee, then wine
The counter changes job three times a day. Mornings run on bread and pastry with specialty coffee from HAYB, so cappuccino and mocha sit beside buns, loaves and a Swedish-style semla. By lunch the kitchen takes over, pulling Polish, Italian, American and fusion habits into the same menu: shakshuka, zapiekanka, crab cakes, cod croquettes, chopped Polish beef and vegetable tempura. By evening it reads as a natural wine bar, with bottles from Natural Rascal. Bread stays constant through all of it, and the chocolate and walnut strucla is the pastry that best explains the bakery half.
A Kazimierz room inside a hotel
MAK opened in 2018 in Kazimierz, on the ground floor of the PURO Kazimierz hotel, and the setting shows in the room: modern, spacious and design-led rather than a cramped bakery front. It gets used accordingly. Freelancers work here through the middle of the day, helped by stable Wi-Fi and power sockets, and it has become a known laptop stop in the district.
That is not the only mode. The same room takes relaxed breakfasts, meetings and solo visits, and it has run events with a DJ without losing the calm. Dogs are welcome. Staff are generally friendly, though attentiveness varies with how busy the counter is. The sweet side has also earned it a place on lists of Kraków spots for afternoon tea.
Order bread first, then read the hour
Start with the bakery, because that is what the name promises and what the counter does best. Bread and butter is the plainest test of it, the semla is the one to take if it is in the case, and the chocolate and walnut strucla is the larger pastry worth splitting. Coffee is HAYB, so a cappuccino or a mocha is a fair read on the roast.
Later, order like it is a restaurant. Shakshuka and zapiekanka are the recognisable anchors, while the crab cakes, cod croquettes, chopped Polish beef and vegetable tempura show how far the kitchen ranges. Finish with a glass of natural wine if the visit runs into the evening. Taking all three registers in one sitting is the point of the place.

Frequently asked questions
What should I order at MAK?
Bread and pastry first, since that is what the counter does best: bread and butter as the plain test, the semla when it is in the case, and the chocolate and walnut strucla as the larger sweet. Coffee comes from HAYB, so a cappuccino reads the roast well. Later the kitchen sends out shakshuka and zapiekanka.
Can you work there?
Yes, and plenty of people do. The room is large and modern, with stable Wi-Fi and power sockets, and it has become a known Kazimierz stop for freelancers. It still takes relaxed breakfasts, meetings and solo visits, and dogs are welcome, so it does not feel like a work-only space.
