Why go
Two speeds of breakfast
Breakfast runs on two tracks here. The buffet covers tropical fruit and fruit salad, savoury breads, butter and requeijão, and it is the faster route for anyone with somewhere to be. The à la carte side is slower and made to order, and it is where the kitchen shows itself: a savoury frittata, sweet breads from the house bakery with strawberry jam, a croissant and muffin combination. Drinks stay deliberately simple, with juice, coffee with milk, hot chocolate and tea rather than a specialty coffee programme.
What you get is a luxury hotel breakfast in the Fasano Italian-Brazilian tradition, not a tasting menu and not an espresso bar. The executive chef developed both tracks, and the room is judged on consistency rather than novelty. Between the two tracks, the same tables absorb a fifteen-minute breakfast and a two-hour one without changing gear, which is the practical advantage of a breakfast room built at this size.
The room and the hour
Fasano Caffè takes up 165 square metres inside Hotel Fasano Rio de Janeiro in Ipanema, split between an indoor salon and a run of outdoor tables, with room for ninety people. That scale explains its double life: a composed breakfast room in the morning, and later a private-function space for meetings, presentations, launches and celebrations, where the decoration and the catering are built around the occasion.
The hotel around it is Philippe Starck's first project in Brazil, designed in homage to Brazilian architecture and design of the 1950s and 1960s and to the Bossa Nova era. The café inherits that register: polished, unhurried and firmly of Ipanema.
How to eat here
Decide first whether the morning is fast or slow. For speed, work the buffet, since fruit, savoury bread, butter and requeijão make a full plate in a single pass. For a slower start, order the frittata from the à la carte side and let the buffet play a supporting role behind it.
The pastry route is the third option: sweet breads from the house bakery with strawberry jam, or the croissant and muffin pairing, with coffee and milk beside them. Visitors who are not staying at the hotel eat here too, so the room stands up as an Ipanema breakfast address in its own right rather than working only as an in-house amenity.

Frequently asked questions
What should I order at Fasano Caffè?
It depends on your pace. The buffet handles a fast plate, with tropical fruit, savoury breads, butter and requeijão. For a slower breakfast, take the savoury frittata from the à la carte side. The pastry route is the sweet breads with strawberry jam or the croissant and muffin combination.
Can non-guests eat at Fasano Caffè?
Yes. Although it sits inside Hotel Fasano Rio de Janeiro, the breakfast room works as an Ipanema address in its own right and takes visitors who are not staying at the hotel. There are ninety seats across an indoor salon and outdoor tables, and later in the day the same room turns over to private events.
