Why go

The Deconstructed Latte arrives in pieces

The signature order is not a finished drink. The Deconstructed Latte comes to the table in parts, to be tasted and assembled rather than handed over complete, and it is the reason most first-time visitors come. It is also a fair summary of the bar’s attitude: coffee served as something to pay attention to.

Around it sit the drinks that made the brand travel. Nitro cold brew is nitrogen-infused for a smoother, creamier body with a natural sweetness. The daily pour-over program runs single origins for anyone who wants the coffee plain. The inventive end covers the Kickass London Fog on an Earl Grey base, a Pandan Latte and a Strawberry Matcha, which pull tea and matcha into the same repertoire as espresso.

Roasted in Long Island City

The coffee is the company’s own. Coffee Project NY opened its Long Island City roastery and academy in late 2019 as a production and education hub, and the Brooklyn cafe pours what comes out of it, which is what links a neighborhood counter to the sourcing, roasting and training behind it.

The story started earlier and smaller. Coffee Project NY began in the East Village in 2015 as a woman-founded passion project of coffee, milk and heart; the Brooklyn shop followed in 2018 and took the brand out of Manhattan. The room is brick-lined with a dining area, built for a quick stop or a long sit, and it was included in the Eater coffee guide for 2025.

What to order after the first one

Start with the Deconstructed Latte, then work outwards. For cold coffee, nitro cold brew is the one to take. For brewed coffee, the daily pour-over is the clearest line back to the roastery and the simplest way to taste a single origin.

Tea and matcha drinkers have a real route here rather than a token one. Strawberry Matcha is the bright, layered choice; the Kickass London Fog applies the same inventive streak to Earl Grey; the Pandan Latte is the aromatic special and the one worth ordering instead of a standard latte. Food is supporting rather than central, so build the visit around drinks and let the brick-lined room slow it down. The bar is happiest when you order something you cannot get elsewhere, which is most of the list.

Frequently asked questions

What should I order at Coffee Project?

Order the Deconstructed Latte, which arrives in parts to be tasted and assembled and is the drink the brand is known for. After that, nitro cold brew for cold coffee and the daily pour-over for a plain single origin. The Pandan Latte and Strawberry Matcha are the inventive picks.

Does Coffee Project roast its own coffee?

Yes. Coffee Project NY runs a roastery and academy in Long Island City, opened in late 2019 as the company’s production and education hub, and the Brooklyn cafe serves that coffee. The daily pour-over program is the clearest way to taste what comes off the roaster.
