Why go

A roastery that keeps the whole chain

Beans are bought straight from the farms, roasted in house and poured at the counter, which is what separates this from a café serving somebody else's label. Café Nativo is a Honduran roastery and specialty coffee shop, family-run and about nine years into the trade, working with growers across the country's six coffee-growing regions and selecting specialty lots.

It roasts, distributes and sells wholesale as well as over the bar, and in Tegucigalpa the name appears at Torre Metrópolis, Casa Mármol and Boulevard Morazán. In 2025 it placed 42nd on The World's 100 Best Coffee Shops.

The producer network is unusually wide for a business of this size, running to more than 5,000 growers, which is what lets the roastery select lots rather than take whatever a broker is offering that season.

Manual brewing, Honduran beans

The bar is set up for hand brewing: V60, Chemex and French press, each pulling a different shape out of the same lots. Nitro cold brew covers the colder end, and a honey washed espresso shows the processing side of what the roastery buys.

Because the sourcing is direct, the coffee on the counter changes with what has been bought and roasted, so asking which Honduran lot is on today is a more useful question than reading a fixed menu. Bags of whole bean and ground coffee are sold to take away, which is the roastery half of the business showing itself.

The rooms themselves are set up for staying, with space to work or to meet someone rather than only to collect a cup at the door.

Order nitro, then a hand brew

Start with the nitro cold brew, the drink most often singled out here, then order a hand brew to taste the sourcing properly. Chemex is the gentlest read on a Honduran lot, V60 the most focused and French press the heaviest, so choose by how much body you want in the cup.

Ask for whichever lot the roastery is most pleased with rather than picking by name. On the food side the alfajores are the standard pairing, and the shelves also carry chocolate, jaleas, salsas and antipastos alongside the coffee bags, so a stop here can end as a shopping trip as easily as a drink.

If a particular lot lands, ask for a bag of the same coffee before leaving. That is the simplest way to keep a visit going, and it is the part of the business the café exists to support.
