Why go

Nomad beans and a concise brew list

The coffee is the draw, and it runs through one main relationship: Nomad Coffee, worked with closely enough to hold a consistent flavour profile for regulars. Guest roasters rotate through alongside it, which adds variety without shifting the coffee-first identity. Café Fokus also stocks Colombian single origins, uncommon in Vienna, next to other specialty beans for retail.

The brew range covers espresso, batch brew and pour over, so an order can move from a quick milk drink to a slower manual cup. A La Marzocco machine anchors the downstairs bar. The regular drinks are the ones you would expect done properly: cappuccino and iced cappuccino, latte and iced latte, espresso tonic, espresso and filter coffee.

A skate-shaped room in Leopoldstadt

The two founders met through skateboarding in Vienna, having both skated for more than twenty years, and wanted a place where coffee sat alongside music, art, photography, magazines and storytelling without becoming a skate cafe. They spent two years looking for the right space before taking a former architecture office near Augarten and fitting it out with a carpenter friend.

The result is small, compact and detail-filled, with seating upstairs and downstairs and a Schanigarten outside. Plants cover the walls, magazines are there to be read, music plays in the room, and one of the founders is usually around, which is why the service reads as personal rather than practised. It works as a social stop for neighbours and as a quiet place to sit with a laptop, and Wi-Fi is part of that.

Espresso tonic, then a croissant

For a first order, the espresso tonic is the most distinctive drink on the list, especially if you want something brighter than a classic milk coffee. Cappuccino is the other strong route, with the iced versions of both worth taking in summer. To read the bar's core, start with a Nomad-based espresso drink, then move to batch brew or pour over when a single origin is on.

Food is present but secondary. The cleanest order is an espresso tonic or a cappuccino first, then a croissant if you want something alongside the cup. Café Fokus works best as a coffee-led stop with light food rather than a brunch room, and the space rewards staying a while: a drink, a magazine, and whatever is playing.

What should I order at Café Fokus?

Can you work at Café Fokus?

Yes. The room is set up for it, with seating upstairs and downstairs, magazines to read, Wi-Fi and a steady flow of neighbours rather than a rush. It stays small and personal, with one of the founders usually present, so it works as a quiet place to sit as much as a social stop.
