Order the Freddo Flat White first

The drink that defines the bar is the Freddo Flat White, the one regulars single out and the clearest statement of what the machine is set up to do. A La Marzocco KB90 sits on the counter, which is a serious piece of equipment for a room this size and a fair signal of where the money and attention have gone.

From there the list runs through espresso and milk drinks, with chilled preparations doing much of the work in warm weather. Nitro cold brew is the summer order, and a Virgin Irish Coffee shows the seasonal side pushing into mixed café drinks without leaving coffee behind. Tea and matcha are not the point here. The bar is built for coffee, and the list stays short enough that nothing on it reads as filler.

A narrow room furnished from another era

Błysk is small and narrow, and the character comes from that scale rather than from convenience. Nearly every piece of furniture is a considered vintage find from the PRL era, the Polish People's Republic years: tables and chairs of the period, books, kitsch details and rescued pieces that add up to a deliberate retro identity rather than a decorator's version of one.

The owners are usually behind the bar, which sets the tone. Regulars are greeted, conversations carry across the room, and the rhythm is that of a neighbourhood bar in the north of the city rather than a central-Warsaw tourist stop. Among the city's specialty cafés, it stands out for keeping the interior, the equipment and the crowd pulling in the same direction.

Beans, cakes and the rest of the counter

Beans come from Polish roasters, with several available at a time and origins including Brazil, Ethiopia and Sumatra. Light-roasted washed coffees turn up regularly, so ask what is on the grinder before defaulting to the usual order. The interest here is in the rotation rather than in a long list of brew methods.

Food supports the coffee instead of competing with it. There is a limited breakfast menu and a well-chosen range of homemade cakes and pastries, with the pistachio cheesecake the one worth asking about first. Banoffee pie and cookies fill out the case. The strongest order is simple: an espresso-based or chilled coffee, then a slice from the counter. Take a window seat if one is free, because the room fills quickly around the middle of the day.
