Espresso first, bakery right behind it

Espresso is the clearest order at Bap, and the bakery counter is the reason to stay for more than one. The Rome café opened in July 2024 and set itself up as a specialty coffee bar that is also a bakery, a brunch room and a lunch stop, which is a lot for a compact space to carry and is precisely what it has become known for.

A daytime café-bistro rather than a coffee lab

The format is counter service in a modern, slightly trendy room, small enough to fill quickly and busy in the way a new café in central Rome gets busy. It runs as a café-bistro across the day rather than a morning-only bar, so the same room handles a fast espresso, a pastry, and a sit-down lunch.

The specialty coffee identity is genuine but not precious. Bap was named in the European Coffee Trip Awards for 2025, which places it in the city’s specialty scene without turning the room into a laboratory.

The space is compact and plainly modern, a neighbourhood café rather than a showpiece. That size is why it fills, and why the counter runs at pace through the middle of the day.

Start with a single espresso

Order a single espresso first. It is the drink most firmly attached to Bap and the fastest way to judge the coffee side against the rest of Rome.

Then extend into the bakery and the food. Pastry and cakes cover the morning, brunch and lunch carry the middle of the day, and taking one of each is the honest way to understand a place that is as food-led as it is coffee-led. Treat Bap as an espresso-first stop with a bakery attached and it makes sense immediately.
