This is the original Calabasas branch, opened in 2013, four years before the stand-alone Santa Monica shop, and it still works as the flagship: a micro-batch roastery with a café underneath it. The drinks list stays on coffee and tea rather than a long run of flavoured lattes. The chai latte is the standout on the tea side, spiced firmly and poured with a creamy texture, and it is the drink regulars name first. It reads as an independent neighbourhood business rather than a chain-style stop, and the service is unhurried enough to match. Eater listed the café in its 2025 coffee guide.

The room is quirky and unpolished rather than designed, with seating at the front, at the back and upstairs, so it takes a five-minute stop and a two-hour one equally well. The patio is the clearest reason the Calabasas branch stands apart: old trees overhead, pastries and coffee outside, and enough room for a morning that is not in a hurry.

The café is physically joined to Pedalers Fork, the restaurant next door, which is why breakfast, brunch and lunch run here rather than a pastry case alone. That connection also explains the two ways in. You can scan a code at the table and wait for your number, or walk up to the line and do the same thing on foot. Food and coffee come from slightly different directions, so it helps to know which one you are ordering. Either way the wait is spent in a building that has been doing this since 2013.

The chai latte and the cafe burrito

Order the cafe burrito if you are here for food. It is the named savoury item, served with two hot sauces, one fierce and one balanced, and it carries a faint sweetness that separates it from a standard breakfast wrap. The chai latte is the drink to put beside it. Pastries cover the lighter end of the counter, and they are the right order for outside: coffee roasted a floor above your head, something sweet, and the trees doing the rest. It is a neighbourhood coffee shop first, and the roastery upstairs is what keeps it from reading like any other one.
