Espresso, and the talk around it

VAA treats coffee culture as something to be passed on rather than displayed. The bar is espresso-led, and the shop addresses itself directly to espresso enthusiasts, sharing what it has learned through conversation across the counter and through occasional training days. That makes the staff, not a menu board, the way into the coffee here.

The result is a café built on hospitality and exchange rather than a long list of named drinks. Order an espresso or a milk drink built on one, and expect to be asked what you usually drink and why.

A Galata stop, with a second branch in Esentepe

The Galata branch sits in Bereketzade, in Beyoğlu, central enough to work as a pause between one part of the city and the next. VAA also runs a branch in Esentepe, in Şişli, so it is a multi-district Istanbul name rather than a single address. European Coffee Trip lists the Galata shop in its Istanbul Coffee Guide and recognised VAA in its 2025 awards.

Order San Sebastián with the espresso

The order to carry in is San Sebastián, the burnt-top cheesecake that anchors the dessert case, taken with an espresso. Dessert is a real part of the visit here, not a token counter, and breakfast is served as well, so the café works either as a short stop or a longer one.

The case changes, so treat the cheesecake as the anchor and the rest as what happens to be good that day. What stays constant is the shape of the visit: an espresso-based coffee, something sweet beside it, and a counter where somebody will talk you through both.
