Why go

Coffee they roast themselves, a street from the cathedral

The cup here comes from the group's own roastery. Santa Coffee selects, roasts and cups the coffee served across its Málaga branches, and Santa Coffee Catedral is the shop set in the historic centre, a short walk from the cathedral it takes its name from. The list runs wider than a single house espresso: Brasil Bottrel, Blend Black List, Colombia Tropical, Burundi Bwongera, Colombia Gaitania, Etiopia Shakiso, Colombia Litchi, Ruanda Kirambo and Mexico Ameca, with a Colombian decaf for anyone avoiding caffeine. That spread across Brazil, Colombia, Burundi, Ethiopia, Rwanda and Mexico is the point of the counter, and the staff will talk through origin, roast and milk rather than simply handing a cup over. Santa Coffee was named in the 2025 European Coffee Trip Awards.

A quiet room, and a coffee school behind it

The pace is slow by design. The room is warm and quiet, rarely crowded, with outdoor seating for the hours when the centre of Málaga is worth watching, and service that stays polite and quick without hurrying anyone through. Santa Coffee also runs its own courses, Coffee Escuela, covering brewing, barismo, cupping, latte art, espresso and roasting, which explains the tone at the bar: the people serving have been taught to explain what they are doing. For a visitor that makes it a useful place to ask a question rather than guess, particularly about which origin to take as filter and which to take with milk. The group runs other rooms in the city, including Camas and Soho, plus its own roastery, and this is the branch people walk to from the cathedral.

Order the iced matcha mango, then something sweet

The clearest non-coffee signature is the iced matcha mango, built with mango puree, coconut drink and crushed ice, and it is the drink to take when the centre is hot. The iced tea casero is the other house cold drink, made with blue tea, papaya, lemon and honey. On the coffee side, an iced latte macchiato with a brownie is the standard afternoon pairing, and a decaf with oat milk shows how far the counter will go to build a drink around a preference. Food runs to cafe bakes and brunch-style plates rather than a full kitchen, and there are gluten-free and vegan sweets, though the kitchen is open about the risk of cross-contamination.

Frequently asked questions

What should you order at Santa Coffee Catedral?

The iced matcha mango, made with mango puree, coconut drink and crushed ice, is the signature cold drink, and the iced tea casero with blue tea, papaya, lemon and honey is the other. For coffee, pick an origin from the group's own roasts and ask whether to take it as filter or with milk.

Where does the coffee come from?

From Santa Coffee's own roastery, which selects, roasts and cups the lots poured across its Málaga branches. The list moves through Brazil, Colombia, Burundi, Ethiopia, Rwanda and Mexico, with a Colombian decaf, and the group also teaches brewing, cupping, latte art and roasting through its Coffee Escuela courses.
