The order at Palm Court Café is one of two drinks. A horchata smoothie is the sweeter, milkier choice, the one that drinks a little like dessert; prickly pear iced tea is the Sonoran alternative, built on a fruit that grows across southern Arizona and landing brighter and cleaner in the heat. Between them they are the reason to make the stop.

A counter you pass through

Everything runs grab-and-go. You order at the counter, you take the cup with you, and the café expects to be a pause in a longer day rather than the day itself. It sits alongside the resort it serves, which sets the tone: quiet, unhurried, and busiest in the gaps between a treatment and whatever comes next.

That also sets the scale of what to expect. This is a refreshment counter rather than a full café programme, and it is best judged on whether the two drinks are good, not on the breadth of a menu.

Which of the two to take

Take the prickly pear iced tea first. It is the more local of the pair and the more obvious answer to a Tucson afternoon, and it is the one that tells you where you are standing.

The horchata smoothie is the better call when you want something closer to a snack than a drink, or when what comes next is long enough that a thin iced tea will not carry you. Either way the choice is narrow, which is its own kind of clarity: two named drinks, both of them the house signature, and no long deliberation at the counter.
