Why go
Coffees named down to the washing station
The retail list is where this London roaster makes its case. Coffees are identified by farm, washing station, co-operative and variety rather than by a house blend name: Fazenda Aracaçu from Brazil, the Koke washing station and the Nano Challa co-operative in Jimma from Ethiopia, a Kinya farm lot from Kenya, Valle Alto Geisha from Peru, Intag Valley from Ecuador, and a Colombian run that takes in El Diviso, Finca Potosí and Las Margaritas. Costa Rica comes in through Tarrazu lots. On the bar, that traceability turns into specific cups; a Colombian double-honey espresso has poured with rose, mango and lychee. The roasting brief is stated plainly, to bring clarity to coffee built for home brewers and professional bars alike. Nostos appeared in the 2025 European Coffee Trip Awards.
Two rooms, and an Experience Bar
Nostos runs as a café-roastery rather than as a single counter. Battersea is the original room; St James carries the Experience Bar, the branch most clearly built around guided service and the place where the roasting work is meant to be tasted properly rather than drunk in passing. The name carries its own frame: nostos is the Greek idea of homecoming, and the brand leans on that thread without letting it turn into decoration. Alongside the two rooms sit retail beans, brewing equipment, events and wholesale supply, so the shelf is working stock rather than background. Food is lighter than the coffee, with pastries doing the work beside the cup.
How to order here
Choose by origin and producer, not by strength or size. The bar is set up for that conversation and the list rewards it: a washed Ethiopian and a Colombian honey lot will read as genuinely different drinks rather than as variations on one theme. If the visit is short, take the Experience Bar route at St James and let the counter pick. If the interest is in brewing at home, the equipment shelf and the retail bags are the reason the shop exists in that form, and the subscription side is built around the same idea. Filter is the better format for the reserve-leaning lots, while espresso suits the Colombian and Central American side. Add a pastry if the hour needs it, but the cup is the reason to stop.
