Why go

Cardamom, pistachio and orange blossom

The drinks are where the Levantine thread shows most clearly. The pistachio cardamom latte is subtly sweet with a warm citrus lift from the cardamom, and the pistachio latte is the other anchor, made in a decaf version as well. The Damasc Latte pushes further in the same direction, rich espresso worked with cardamom and orange blossom. Turkish coffee and chai widen the range, and there is a spiced drink without caffeine for anyone skipping espresso altogether. There is no origin board or roaster list on the wall here. What the counter offers instead is a set of house drinks built on pistachio, cardamom, orange blossom and the spiced coffee traditions behind them.

A bright room built around gathering

Mintish is the first fixed address for its owner, a University of Washington business graduate and former barista who opened it with partners, and the Capitol Hill room reflects that personal investment. The owners converted the space themselves, which is why it reads as specific rather than generic: regional colors, art and floral displays, with light coming through the front. The idea running through it is Levantine hospitality, mint and tea and family gathering, the feeling of being fed at home. It gets busy. Tables fill and the counter still keeps pace, which in Seattle is the mark of a room built to hold people rather than move them along.

Order the pistachio cardamom latte, then add kunafa

Start with the pistachio cardamom latte, the clearest single order in the house, or take the plain pistachio latte for the nut without the spice. The Damasc Latte is the other signature and the most distinctly Levantine of the three. If spice is the reason for the visit, the chai and the non-caffeinated spiced drink carry that thread past espresso. On the food side, put kunafa cheesecake next to whatever you order. Pistachio cookies, date cake and Mintish cake fill out the sweet counter, and there is sahlab for something warmer. Savory runs through a za'atar croissant, grilled cheese with nuts on top, a za'atar grilled cheese, a roast beef sandwich, and halloumi on ciabatta with tomato and olive tapenade. A first order of pistachio cardamom latte and kunafa cheesecake settles it.
