The coffee is kavafamily's own, roasted by the independent Split operation that runs the shop, which makes this a roastery counter rather than a café buying beans in. That is the practical reason to choose it: what is in the cup is the roaster's own work, poured somewhere the roaster can hear the feedback. Roasting and serving in the same city keeps the loop short, and that consistency is what a regular is actually buying.

The programme is not built on a rotating origin list or a wall of brewing equipment. It is simpler than that, and better understood as kavafamily coffee served properly in the middle of Split. The brand describes the branch as nested in a city with deep history and a real appreciation for coffee, which is a fair description of Split's own relationship with the drink.

The terrace that made it a community

kava2 is the second location, and the one the brand credits with showing it how strong a coffee community can be. It calls the branch the home of that community, a large claim for a small shop, but the terrace explains it: people stay, work and come back rather than passing through. The community language is less marketing than a description of who is sitting outside on a weekday afternoon.

That terrace is the reason to plan around the place rather than drop in. It holds up as somewhere to spend a couple of hours with a laptop, and the interior is designed with the same attention, modern and considered rather than generic.

How to use it

Treat it as a coffee-first stop in central Split. There is no food programme to build a visit around and nothing on the counter competing with the cup for attention, so the sensible order is coffee and a seat outside.

The shop was recognised in the 2025 European Coffee Trip awards, which places it inside the wider European specialty scene rather than only the local one. Between the roastery link, the terrace and the regulars, kava2 works better as somewhere to return to than as something to tick off.
