Why go
Pour overs first, then the composed lattes
The pour over is the order that explains Iron & Kin. It sits at the centre of the coffee side, and the roastery behind the counter is the reason: coffee here is run as a programme rather than as whatever fills the hopper. The house language, coffee for ritual and connection, matches the way the menu works, built around drinks people come back to on ordinary days.
The other half of the board goes in a different direction, toward matcha and composed milk drinks. A chaga latte brings an earthy edge, a mocha latte covers the chocolate register, and a strawberry matcha has become the drink people name when they describe the place. Seasonal drinks rotate through, and the bar is comfortable borrowing flavours from cocktail and culinary work.
A big room that can take a line
The room gives the counter space to breathe: high ceilings, a rustic interior, music kept at a level that allows conversation, and enough air that a paper cup is not the only way to use it. Outdoor seating takes the overflow, and a line can build before the bar catches up at weekend peaks.
It gets used the way a first location tends to be used, with solo work during the week, catchups from the nearby colleges, and slower Saturday mornings that run long. This is the first location for the business, and it still carries the slightly overbuilt feel of a room designed for what the company wanted to become. Being part of the Claremont Packing House district explains some of the foot traffic, though the room holds its own character inside it.
How to order
For coffee, ask for the pour over when there is time for one, since it is the clearest expression of the roasting side. If the day calls for milk and chocolate, the mocha latte is the safer regular order, and a chocolate croissant from the case is the pairing most people arrive already planning.
On the other side of the menu, the strawberry matcha is the drink to name, brighter and softer than anything on the coffee list. The chaga latte is the particular one, worth ordering when the usual espresso drink feels too narrow. Whichever way you go, come earlier if a pastry is part of the plan.

Frequently asked questions
What should you order at Iron & Kin?
A pour over if there is time, since it shows the roasting side most clearly. If the order is milk-based, the mocha latte with a chocolate croissant is the standard pairing here. On the non-coffee side, the strawberry matcha is the drink to name, and the chaga latte is the more particular choice.
Can you work at Iron & Kin?
Yes. The room is high-ceilinged and airy with varied seating and music kept low enough for conversation, so it takes solo work during the week as well as weekend catchups. Outdoor seating helps when the inside fills, though a line can build at the bar during weekend peaks.
