Coffee by day, cocktails after work

Conwell’s clearest idea is its dual role. By day it runs as a café and reads as part of Lower Manhattan’s contemporary coffee scene; after work it turns into a cocktail hall without changing rooms or identity.

The evening programme is the more defined half. There is a weekday Golden Hour menu built around cocktails, and the calendar has included live storytelling under the name “The Tell.” The espresso martini and the classic martini sit at the crossover point: one leans into the coffee half of the name, the other states the cocktail half plainly.

The room carries the place. Cathedral-scale Art Deco proportions, the visual language of old Wall Street ambition, and decor that is what people mention first. The story is straightforward: a 1920s bank interior turned into a present-day room for coffee, conversation, cocktails and evening company.

Close to the financial core, it has become a regular stop for Financial District locals, office workers and visitors who want one place for several parts of the day. Mornings bring coffee and light food in a polished historic space; later the same space shifts to martinis and storytelling.

Order the martini once the day has crossed over

The classic martini is the most direct way to read Conwell after the café half gives way to the cocktail hall. It matches the nighttime role and the old-bank setting, where a polished drink sits naturally against Art Deco surroundings.

The espresso martini is the more blended order, connecting the two halves of the name, and it makes particular sense at a venue designed to move from daytime caffeine to evening drinks without changing character. Earlier on, Conwell is a genuine Financial District breakfast option, with vegan-friendly choices on the menu. The simplest plan is coffee or breakfast first, then one of the two martinis once the day has turned.
