Why go

House-roasted coffee, on the bar and in the bag

black. roasts its own coffee in Bratislava, and the bar is the shop window for it. The house blend is black sheep, dark chocolate with forest fruit and dried fruit behind it, and it carries the espresso side of the menu. A separate blend is built for filter, sweeter and juicier, while the batch brew rotates through single origins; a Ugandan lot has run with lemon curd, passion fruit and currant against a bright acidity, and a Brazilian coffee brings the other direction, dark chocolate with apricot, caramel and hazelnut. The roastery calls itself pražiareň black. and sells under the line "specialty coffee, anywhere", which is a fair description of a business that expects you to drink it at the bar and then brew it at home. It was recognised in the 2025 European Coffee Trip awards.

A calm room, and a second address

The city-centre branch is the main one, with a second black. out at Nová Cvernovka. The room is modern and quiet, personal rather than polished, and it comes with Wi-Fi and outside seating, which makes it usable for working, meeting someone, or taking a cup onto the terrace when the weather allows. Food supports the coffee instead of competing with it: cakes, desserts and pastries, with vegan options among them, enough to go with a second cup but not enough to constitute lunch. One of the co-owners came up through this bar as a barista before taking on the wider business, and the service still has that shape, closer to a counter conversation than a transaction.

How to order

Espresso is the way in, and a double is the order that shows the black sheep blend most plainly, chocolate first with the fruit arriving behind it. If you prefer brewed coffee, ask what is on batch brew, since that is where the lighter, fruitier single origins turn up and where the roasting has the most to say. Add cake or a pastry rather than treating food as the main event. Then look at the shelf: the same coffees are sold in bags and value packs, so the most useful thing to take away from a visit is a kilo of whatever you liked in the cup. That is the point of the whole operation, a café that treats the bar as a tasting room for the roastery behind it.

Frequently asked questions

What should I order at black.?

A double espresso is the clearest read on black sheep, the house blend, with its dark chocolate, forest fruit and dried fruit character. If you want something lighter, ask what is on batch brew; the rotating single origins are where the fruitier lots appear. Cake or a pastry is the right accompaniment.

Can you buy coffee to take home from black.?

Yes. The roastery sells the same coffees in bags and value packs, including the black sheep house blend and the filter-oriented one, so a visit can end with the coffee you have just drunk. That retail side is central to the business rather than an add-on to the café.
