Coffee first, retail second

The name says specialty coffee and the counter backs it up. Service is over the counter in a small room, and the rhythm is short: come in, order, drink, look at what is on the shelves. The retail half is not a gift shop bolted onto a café. Vinyl and surf-adjacent clothing occupy the same space as the coffee, which makes the shop as much a reason to come as the cup and gives you something to do while a filter is being made. It also sets the register of the place: modern, minimalist, more interested in what it has chosen to stock than in filling the room. Nothing here is scaled up. The counter is short, the racks are edited, and the whole operation runs on a small number of decisions taken seriously rather than a long list of things done adequately.

The vegan sourdough bake

The bakery is the food story and it is specific: vegan and sourdough-led rather than a tray of bought-in pastries.
