Coffee at the front, cocktails after dark

Americano Lounge runs two bars in one room in Nashville’s Wedgewood-Houston. The espresso side is the daytime business, built on craft lattes, the americano the place is named for, and a house drip for anyone who wants it plain. The cocktail side takes over later, which is unusual enough in an independent coffee room to be the reason most people first hear about it. It has been open since at least early 2020, when it was still one of the city’s lesser-known coffee rooms, and the community-minded, conversation-first idea behind it has not changed.

The Satchmo latte, then something baked

Start with the Satchmo latte. It is the drink with a name and a point of view, and it tells you more about the counter than the americano will. From there the order depends on what you want the visit to be: the americano or the house drip for a plain cup, a craft latte for something composed, and something from the baked case to go with it. There is savory food as well, including a breakfast sandwich, so the place holds up as an actual morning stop rather than a coffee-only one.

A room with a piano in it

The lounge half of the name is literal. There are alcoves of comfortable seats, a piano, a decorative fireplace, a wall of dog pictures, and enough artsy and literary detail to make the room feel collected rather than designed. Live jazz and blues set the soundtrack and there are weekly movie nights. The effect is vintage and a little old-world, quiet enough to hold a conversation over drinks, and it explains why people treat it as somewhere to stay rather than somewhere to collect a cup.
